Floral First - September 2020
It was a warm overcast calm day for my photo shoot in the garden this week, and there were a few new subjects to point my camera lens towards.
I was very pleased to see that my Ornithogalum saundersiae had finally begun to flower after about a month of being in bud.
Mexican Star - September 2020
Also, after a particularly poor year for my Dahlias, variety 'Mexican Star' had finally decided to produce some blooms. They were much smaller than last year, but at least they'd arrived.
Oxalis Iron Cross - September 2020
I thought that the Oxalis 'Iron Cross' (Oxalis tetraphylla) plants had already finished their flowering cycle for the year, but here they were again showing blooms against their distinctive foliage.
Pink Godetia - September 2020
Meanwhile Godetia (Clarkia amoena) blooms seemed to dominate the garden. There were light pink ones...
White Godetia - September 2020
...white ones...
Godetia Flower Head - September 2020
...and dark pink ones.
Welsh Poppy - September 2020
Like the Oxalis above, I thought that the Welsh Poppies (Meconopsis cambrica) had also delivered their flowers for the year, but here they were also showing for a second time.
Geranium Rozanne - September 2020
Geranium 'Rozanne' had been flowering for months, and showed no signs of slowing down.
Dwindling Bloomage - September 2020
Meanwhile the Butterfly Bush (Buddleia) had almost come to the end of its season, but had done its job attracting lots of insects to the garden, culminating in the Hummingbird Hawk Moth last week.
Budding Take Off - September 2020
The final Dahlia that may flower in the garden is variety 'Take Off'. This one flowered almost all summer and autumn last year, so it's been a bit disappointing this year.
Gone to Seed - September 2020
Finally, the last of the Drumstick Alliums (Allium sphaerocephalon) are now going to seed.
So this week I went with Floral First as my Image of the Week simply because it was the first flower to arrive on plants which I'd first potted up three summers ago...
