Welsh Poppy - May 2021

It was a race against time this week in dad's garden as I endeavoured to complete my photo shoot before the rain arrived.

My first port of call was at the newly arrived Welsh Poppies (Meconopsis cambrica) which were looking particularly good against the dark frame of the greenhouse.

Buttercup - May 2021

There were quite a few new blooms in the garden this week, and not all of them were cultivated varieties. The Buttercups (Ranunculus) were looking bright and beautiful in the sunshine, while it lasted.

Erigeron Stallone - May 2021

The daisy like Erigeron 'Stallone' (Erigeron karvinskianus) blooms had returned. They had escaped their patio pots, and were now spreading around the garden of their own accord.

Geranium Macrorrhizum - May 2021

The hardy little Geranium macrorrhizum flowers had also returned, although their once large clump seemed to be reducing in size, probably due to the border they were planted in being partly under water over winter.

Forget Me Not - May 2021

Forget Me Not (Myosotis) blooms were popping up all over the place, and looked as pretty as ever.

Green Alkanet - May 2021

The Green Alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens) also continued to add a different shade of blue to the borders.

Spanish Bluebell - May 2021

The Spanish Bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica) added a third blue to the garden, which was nice to see.

Budding Rhododendron - May 2021

Other treats that would be arriving soon would be coming from the Rhododendron bush, which was beginning to stretch out its flower buds.

Budding Lupin - May 2021

It was also nice to see the Lupin (Lupinus) flower buds returning, although they were very well hidden amongst the mass of green Lupin leaves.

Budding Oxeye - May 2021

It wouldn't be long before the Oxeye Daisies (Leucanthemum vulgare) took over the garden, as there were lots and lots of these attractively patterned buds looking ready to burst open at any moment.

Stealth Cat - May 2021

Finally, my photography companion managed to startle me this week as I was taking the picture of the Oxeye Daisy flower bud, as he'd crept up and unexpectedly positioned himself in my eyeline as I looked up from the shot!

So this week I went with Welsh Poppy as my Image of the Week simply because I thought the colour really popped against the frame of the greenhouse...
